Rachelle Buchbinder, PhD is Director of the Monash Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Professor in the Monash University Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine in Australia. She was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for her services to rheumatology and epidemiology in 2020.
She combines clinical practice with research in a wide range of multidisciplinary projects relating to musculoskeletal conditions as well as improving communication with patients and health literacy. She has a longstanding commitment to knowledge synthesis and implementation of clinical research evidence to guide clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes. Her current program of work concerns reducing inappropriate or low value care and improving the sustainability of the health system. She initiated and led The Lancet Low Back Pain Series (www.thelancet.com/series/low-back-pain), a three-part call to action to address the rising global burden of low back pain partly attributable to poor quality health care.
