Blair H Smith MD is Professor of Population Health Science, University of Dundee (2011-present) and Scottish National Lead Clinician for Pain. At Dundee, he established the Chronic Pain Research Group, was Head of the Division of Population Health Sciences, and is Clinical Co-Director of Tayside Clinical Trials Unit. An academic general practitioner, he currently practises as a Consultant in Pain Medicine (NHS Scotland). Graduating at the Universities of Glasgow (MBChB, 1987) and Aberdeen (MEd Distinction 1998; MD 2000), he held an NHS Primary Care Career Scientist Award (2000-2005) and was Professor Primary Care Medicine, University of Aberdeen until 2011. He has authored >250 peer-reviewed research papers and various books and chapters, and been (co-)investigator on research grants totalling >£17M. He is a Chief Investigator on Generation Scotland, a major genetic epidemiology programme. He is Past Chair of NeuPSIG, and co-chairs IASP’s Global Alliance of Pain Patient Advocates Task Force.
